Regardless of the situation or adversity, it’s your response to it that decides the final outcome. Notice the word is “Response”, not “Reaction”. Response requires thought and preplanning so if something bad happens, you know the steps to remedy it quickly.

Reaction doesn’t require thought or planning. It is a defensive action only, and usually something that is regretted later.

Which way do you run your business? Would you rather be responding or reacting?

Company 1 is responding…

As far as computer systems, they are regularly backing up, updating, maintaining, and protecting their systems from malware and disaster. Training employees on the use of the equipment and company policies is a priority. Company 1 also keeps an eye on upcoming future trends so they don’t wake up one day and find that their way of operating is obsolete. Having done all the right things, a crashing hard drive won’t hinder their day. They also have recovery protocols and backups, so malware and ransomware will only be an annoyance that may slow their business for a minute or two. But no business will be lost.

Company 2 is reacting…

Company 2, on the other hand, is hoping for the best. They do not have a plan in place. They do not maintain their equipment and keep all their systems up to date. This is a recipe for disaster. They also don’t train their employees and have no policies in place for the proper use of their equipment. This will inevitably lead to disaster.

So what do you think? Would you rather do business with company 1 where they are organized, responding and staying a step ahead of any unexpected occurrences? Because company 1 is more organized, they should be less distracted and able to better focus of their customers.

Or would you rather do business with company 2? They are disorganized, reacting and fighting fires every day? They are unprepared and busy dealing with things that are going wrong in their business on a daily basis, so little time is available to properly care for their customers.
