If you have a computer that is running Windows 7 or earlier, or you bought a cheap computer to start with, it would be less expensive to just go out and buy another computer. Because even a cheap new computer runs faster than a computer that is a few years old.
If you have a more expensive computer, it may be more cost effective to replace the hard drive with a solid state drive. By cloning a solid state drive you can keep your same formatting, have a longer warranty, and have a much faster system than buying a new computer that has a regular old hard drive.
Also, by not having to transfer files, reinstall programs, and renter saved passwords, you’ll be saving a ton of time and brain drain trying to recover everything you had before.
What is the difference between a regular hard drive and a solid state drive?
A regular hard drive has moving parts that run between 5400 rpm and 7200 rpm. This is similar to parts in your car. Over time they wear out.
On the other hand, a solid state drive has no moving parts. So information is transferred faster and there is less likelihood for mechanical failure. The only drawback is you need to have a good backup because when a solid state drive fails, you may not get a warning like you will with a regular hard drive. A solid state drive for an average user could last up to 10 to 15 years before information can no longer be saved to the disk.
Replacing/upgrading your hard drive is one of the best investments you can make and one of the least costly. It will increase your speed and your computer will just run better overall.
