Top of the morning to you! (and the rest of the day to you – thanks Brad Dukes). St. Patrick’s Day this month brought the phrase ” The luck of the Irish” to mind.

“The luck of the Irish” phrase is thought to imply that the miners in the late nineteenth century were finding success in finding gold purely based on luck, rather than based on intelligence and skill.

In the computer world, the people that never seem to get exposed to malware, or computer issues often seem to have “the luck of the Irish”.

It is more often that the people (or their IT department) are being diligent in utilizing up-to-date hardware and software security, along with best practices such as hard to guess passwords, thinking before clicking and regular training on the dangers lurking in the electronic world.

Unlike “The luck of the Irish”, AI (Artificial Intelligence) protection is based on mathematical algorithms, machine intelligence and human skill to implement these robust security measures. It isn’t about luck at all. Safeguarding your systems requires skill and perseverance to keep you and your business safe.

AI is making it more difficult to discern real from fake. Whether it’s hackers sending emails, using AI to create fake vidoes, or any other tactic hackers use to fool you and get access to your sytems and information…you have to be on guard at all times with your personal and business online interactions.

The good news is that most computer protection firewalls and software are also utilizing AI in a good way to help prevent the hackers and bad actors from getting through to the end users by blocking them before they can reach the user.

Artificial Intelligence is about teaching machines to learn from experience. When applied to security, this means creating systems that learn from past threats to predict, identify, and neutralize potential future threats with efficiency far beyond human capabilities. The goal? To stay one step ahead of malicious actors in a constantly evolving digital landscape.

With some hard work and skill, may you have “the luck of the Irish” with regards to your technology world. But it will require a little preparation, training, diligence to ensure you are safe from the hackers and bad actors.

Have an “Irish Spring” and clean up your protection. Make sure all your systems, training, and other safequards are in place.
