Zoom, Facetime, Skype? Time for church? Jump on Facebook Live. Then there is Microsoft Teams for work only. How do I share my screen?

Confused yet? Me too.  It can be overwhelming navigating this new world we are living in. But the good news is you can learn how to use all of these tools with a little practice and knowledge.

Whether you’re working from home, remotely attending church, speaking with your doctor, meeting with clients, or staying in touch with the kids…the choices for communication are daunting. Meeting face-to-face is no longer an option in many cases, so people are turning to online options.

The best way to deal with the numerous options available is to pick the one you use the most and take the time to watch the training videos. At the moment most people are using Zoom. The good news is once you master one platform, such as Zoom, it will be easier to learn how to use the other services, because there are similarities between all of them.

Each service has their own rules, including the number of people that can attend each meeting and maximum length of meetings. Also, rules are different between free services and paid services. For example, you can use Zoom for free with a limit of 100 attendees and a time limit of 40 minutes.

Here are a few tips to make your online meetings a little easier:

1.  Find someone you can practice with to learn how to share hosting, share screens, create breakout sessions, set up communications, add or remove participants, mute microphones and use video.

2.  Remember to have fun, and try not to be stressed out during the meeting. Your friends and co-workers realize this is probably not the way you’d prefer to do meetings, but due to current circumstances this may be the best way to keep everyone safer.

3.  If you are part of an organization, it’s a good idea to make sure everyone is trained properly in the use of these tools.

I’d like to say it’s easy from the start, but it’s not. There is a bit of a learning curve. But once you get through that, it gets much easier. Some people even prefer online meetings rather than in-person meetings.

I hope this information has given you a little more insight into how to use the communication options available to you and how to adjust to this new way of communicating with our friends and co-workers.
