Happy Groundhog Day, Valentines Day, President’s Day. The month of February is filled with various events. And don’t forget the upcoming Super Bowl.

With the Super Bowl coming up, I thought why not write about how the NFL uses computers. There are many similarities between what the NFL does and how you set up your business (or home) computer systems.

For the Super Bowl, the early prep is figuring out what equipment will be used for running all the real-time stats and publishing to their websites. As you can imagine, they have constant high volume use of their systems. Everything has to be redundant so when/if something happens to their systems, there will be no downtime.

Imagine the stress of having a technical failure at the Super Bowl! Think of the lost revenue and the negative backlash from viewers if their systems failed for some reason. And I don’t think they would want ransomware popping up at a time like this. Equipment failures resulting in dead air space or compromised websites could mean disaster for the TV station airing the big game.

The Super Bowl is set up like a mid-level business that takes months to prepare for and your business should be set up the same way. It should be set up to work day in, day out so you are prepared for whatever may happen in your business at any time. Where the NFL prepares for that one day when the Super Bowl takes place, you need to plan not just for everyday but 5 – 10 years ahead.

Of course, time and money is always a consideration for business owners, but you should always buy the best equipment, software and talent you can afford when you starting or growing a business. If you can’t afford the best equipment starting out, consider gradually improving your equipment over time. Also, train or incorporate new personnel that can handle the changes.

Your business needs to be as bulletproof as possible. It needs to adjust to the changing times. That means preparing to prevent data loss, ransomware, viruses, employee actions and downtime. Be proactive versus reactive.

The backup solution you had when first starting the business may not be the right fit now. How much downtime can your business afford? How much fraud, waste and abuse can your business tolerate before it crashes? What about preparing for unseen potential dangers such as tornadoes, floods, ice storms, the internet being down?

Unfortunately, most businesses don’t think about their computer systems failing until they do. Don’t you think it’s time to get ahead of the game and get prepared so you can mitigate any future problems?

That’s where we can assist you.

Stop worrying about potential threats of downtime for your computer systems. Get back to the game, and let us handle the technical aspects of keeping your business running like the Super Bowl!

All the best and stay well,
Jim Nay
